Rudi Johnson Foundation to host Mother's Day Luncheon and Concert

May 14, 2006 - Bengals Pro Bowl running back Rudi Johnson hosted a "Celebrity Mother's Day Luncheon and Concert" at the Westin Hotel's Presidential Ballroom. As a featured fundraising event for The Rudi Johnson Foundation (RJF), the luncheon and concert provided a fun-filled afternoon that paid tribute to those who have given so much of themselves by being a friend, confidante, supporter, as well as a source of infinite wisdom: Our Mothers!

Presented by The Rudi Johnson Foundation, 94.9 MOJO and JD Byrider, this was the first time the foundation issued these awards. This was a memorable celebration designed to show the world how treasured our mothers really are.

Honored was actress extraordinaire, Regina King. King began her career in the television show "227" (1985), followed by a role in Boyz n the Hood (1991). She began to be recognized by a mainstream audience after her role as Cuba Gooding Jr.'s wife in Jerry Maguire (1996). She appeared in Enemy of the State (1998) as Will Smith's wife. You may recall her recent highly acclaimed role as Margie Hendricks in Ray (2004). She was also in the following: Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (2005) ... A Cinderella Story (2004) as Rhonda, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003) as Grace Rossiter.


Regina King
As you can see, Regina King has been able to balance her accomplished career, with stellar performances all while thriving in Motherhood. She is a definitely a woman who has put family first while excelling in her career as an actress in Hollywood. In addition to her acting career, King devotes a significant amount of time to her son Ian, age 9, by playing an active role in many of his extracurricular activities. King was chosen as the 2006 RJF Celebrity Mother of the Year because she has established herself as one of the most talented and versatile actresses in Hollywood, all while putting her son and family first.

R & B superstar Howard Hewitt also performed at the Celebrity Mother's Day Luncheon. The former member of Shalamar, with an established solo career, his songs have remained the most requested over the past decades with such hits as "Say Amen," "I'm for Real" and "For the Lover in You," just to name a few.

This highly anticipated event brought together an impressive lineup of NFL superstars and local celebrities such as: Carson Palmer (Bengals), T.J. Houshmandzadeh (Bengals), Odell Thurman (Bengals), Shaun Smith (Bengals), Cadillac Williams (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Carlos Rogers (Washington Redskins), and Takeo Spikes (Buffalo Bills) among others.

About the Rudi Johnson Foundation The Rudi Johnson Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit charity formed exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. The Foundation is an outgrowth of Rudi Johnson's desire to give back to the community and promote the well being of its citizens through collaboration with other agencies and direct assistance to individual efforts to reach and maintain self sufficiency. The concept was developed in partnership with similar non-profits, local officials, community members, neighborhood schools and recruited board members. Generally, the foundation strives to uplift the community through education, entrepreneurship, and housing support.

Over the past year, The Rudi Johnson Foundation's programs have included scholarships (monetary), toy drives, Christmas and Thanksgiving food drives as well as motivational speeches at various schools and corporations throughout the community.
