GEORGETOWN, Ky. - On the third day of training camp the Bengals sent out a news release Saturday announcing the club and Georgetown College have agreed on a one-year extension of the team's contract to hold training camp at the college's East Campus Athletic Complex. The agreement now runs through 2010 and marks the 14th year of the agreement.
"Georgetown College and the Bengals continue to have an excellent relationship," said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis in the release. "We're excited about this year and happy to announce the plans for 2010.
"We're convinced of the benefits of starting our season in a camp situation, where everyone is working, eating and living together for several weeks. And as we've noted many times, the complex here is perfect for all those needs, with a great staff who have become our friends as well as co-workers."
As recently as Thursday's check-in Lewis extolled the virtues of the site.
"The advantge of our facility in Georgetown is that, number one, we're really in a contained environment," Lewis said. "(Players) never have to drive. Everything is basically in a 400-yard radius. From our meeting areas to our dining room to our locker room facilities to the living quarters. Each player has his own bedroom at Georgetown. It's a unique facility. It was constructed for this camp, so it worked well."
Also in the release Georgetown College athletic director Eric Ward said, "We like to think the relationship gets better each year. For now, we're focused on having a great 2009."
