In the wake of the Eric Winston signing, the Bengals still have a roster spot open and it figures to go to a linebacker Wednesday after they work out some candidates to fill the space left by Jayson DiManche's trip to injured reserve.

The other move the club made Tuesday is release second-year middle linebacker J.K. Schaffer from the injured reserve list, where he's been since Aug. 27. Schaffer, who played in nine games in 2013, is one of a handful of Bengals who played high school, college, and pro ball in Cincinnati.

A La Salle High School grad and all-league player at the University of Cincinnati, Schaffer battled concussions during training camp and is continuing to recover while weighing options for his future. He has yet to decide if he'll keep playing.
