The Bengals, last in the league sacks, went for their second straight pass rusher Saturday when they started their spate of fourth-round picks with Tulane's Cam Sample.
After taking Texas defensive end/outside linebacker Joseph Ossai in the third round Friday night they opted for more versatility with one of the Senior Bowl's outstanding players. According to Pro Football Focus, the 6-3, 280-pound Sample had the highest win rate and grade in one-on-ones during the week in Mobile, Ala., with an ability to also rush from inside as well.
Other PFF observations: "Leverage demon. Gets underneath everyone's pads. Reaction rusher with a punch that sends shockwaves through linemen. Explodes on contact."
Sample, out of Snellvillle, Ga., started for three seasons and last year had five sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss.
"A violent bully off the snaps," Ourlads Scouting Services says. "Power first, nastiness second and athleticism third."
The Bengals took Sample with the sixth pick in the fourth round and still have the 17th and the 34th in the round after Friday night's trade with the Patriots.
