The Bengals closed a chapter in the 2012 draft Sunday with the release of Brandon Thompson (98).

The headline name from Sunday's Bengals cuts is sixth-year defensive tackle Brandon Thompson. Also lopped the day after the Bengals' 30-12 pre-season loss to the Chiefs was rookie running back Boom Williams and rookie wide receiver Karel Hamilton to put the roster at 86 players heading in to next Sunday's game in Washington.

The Bengals have now moved on from the pair of defensive tackles they took in consecutive rounds of the 2012 draft, second-rounder Devon Still and Thompson, a third-rounder out of Clemson. Thompson missed all last season recovering from the torn ACL he suffered in the 2015 season finale and the Bengals gave him two pre-season games to see if he was back to his form when he split time with nose tackle Pat Sims before he got hurt.

The answer came Sunday with fourth-rounder Ryan Glasgow showing solid, consistent signs backing up Sims and Geno Atkins. Also looking to have a roster spot for the fourth and what maybe the final roster spot at tackle is second-year man Andrew Billings.
