A few observations from the practice field during Friday morning's practice:
» Team using upper practice field for first time this summer. In shells, no pads.
» The team is using the upper practice field for the first time this summer. They are dressed in shorts and no pads.
» Linebacker Dhani Jones is not here today while attending the funeral for Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson.
» Others not practicing this morning include safety Corey Lynch, linebackers Keith Rivers and Brandon Johnson, center Dan Santucci, and running back Bernard Scott with a sore shoulder. Offensive lineman Evan Mathis (muscle tightness) also didn't work.
» Tight end Daniel Coats is no longer on crutches but not he is not practicing.
» Wide receiver Laveranues Coles' back tightened on him during practice, but position coach Mike Sheppard wouldn't be surprised if he played at night.
"He's not like to miss a rep," Sheppard said. "If there's a way he can go, he'll be out there."
