Lewis expects LaFell, Ced for Jets; Marvin wants four pre-season games

After the Bengals finished up their last public session of training camp in a Tuesday morning walk-through on the Paul Brown Stadium field before a group of season ticket holders, head coach Marvin Lewis indicated he doesn't expect injured starters Cedric Ogbuehi and Brandon LaFell to miss the Sept. 11 regular-season opener in New Jersey against the Jets.

LaFell, a seven-year veteran wide receiver who reportedly has ligament damage in his right hand, went through individual drills Monday after not playing Friday night in the pre-season opener against the Vikings. Lewis didn't rule out LaFell for the next one, Thursday night (7:30-Cincinnati's Channel 12) in Detroit.

Ogbuehi, the No. 1 pick in 2015, apparently injured his toe in his first start at right tackle against Minnesota. It's unclear how long both will be out but it seems Lewis is banking on them to return once the season gets going.

The Bengals do have one more public practice during the preseason on Sunday at West Carrollton High School from 3:50-5:20 p.m.

Lewis said he plans to give both starting units extended time after holding them each to a series Friday night.

MARV WANTS 4: Lewis, a member of the NFL Competition Committee, said Tuesday he's against cutting the number of pre-season games from four to two.

"I would be opposed to it," Lewis said. "We need to see the guys play football. You can't play football without playing football. At least in the preseason, you have to play live football, as was shown on Friday night."
