Palmer probably out for Balt; Joseph to IR

Head coach Marvin Lewis said Friday that Carson Palmer has only a slim chance of playing the next game, Nov. 30 against the Ravens, and is probably out.

But he said things are positive and it's believed Palmer is going to try and throw without having elbow surgery some time in December to see if it stands up.

Also Friday, cornerback Johnathan Joseph became the fourth starter and 13th player to go on the season-ending injured reserve list with a foot problem that cost him two games in September and flared up this week to knock him out of Thursday's game.

The Bengals recalled rookie cornerback Simeon Castille from the practice squad to take his place. Castille, out of Alabama, was the only college free agent to make the Bengals Opening Day roster and played in the first four games. He's he's been on the practice squad since.

It's the second straight year in his three-year career that Joseph has struggled with a foot injury. He suffered a stress fracture during the '07 minicamp and didn't pick up steam until the second half of the season. This year he got hurt late in the second game of the year and ironically got hurt in Sunday's Philadelphia game, when he came up with his first interception of the season.

Lewis said the most significant injury in Pittsburgh was a hamstring injury to right end Frostee Rucker. Left end Robert Geathers and cornerback David Jones suffered hyperextended knees.

Antwan Odom (shoulder), the man Rucker has replaced the last two weeks, is improving but all statuses won't be known until Wednesday. Tight end Ben Utecht is nursing a hip pointer. The Bengals have the weekend off and report back Monday.

Lewis said Chad Ocho Cinco has been fined for the incident that got him deactivated, but he wasn't suspended so it wasn't for a game check.

The Ocho did report back to work Friday and left without talking to the media. Lewis said he got treatment for a sore knee.

"Coming in next week we want to make sure he's 100 percent," said Lewis, who says there is no more disciplinary action warranted. "I think the incident is behind us. He understands why it happened and how it happened. He's accepted his punishment and we move forward."

Lewis wouldn't say if The Ocho apologized to him, citing a private conversation and wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh said he wasn't aware of an apology to the team.

Various published reports say Ocho Cinco overslept a team meeting before stalking out when he was called on it.
