NOTES

Burrow Connects With Tight Ends

Joe Burrow passed for 258 yards, and 151 of those went to tight ends. It marked the most passing yards the Bengals' tight ends have recorded in Burrow's career. He completed passes to Mike Gesicki (game-high seven catches for 91 yards), Drew Sample (three for 28) and rookie Erick All Jr. (four for 32).

Gesicki, playing in his 100th regular-season game, posted the fourth-most receiving yards in a game in his career, and his most since a 115-yard day on Oct. 17, 2021 when he played for Miami. Today's total also marked the most receiving yards by a Bengals tight end since C.J. Uzomah had 95 yards on Sept. 21, 2021 at Baltimore.

Davis-Gaither Pick Leads to Yoshi TD

Linebacker and team captain Akeem Davis-Gaither notched the Bengals' first turnover of the season when he picked off a Patrick Mahomes pass on the opening play of a Chiefs drive late in the first quarter. It marked Davis-Gaither's second career regular-season interception. His first pick came in Week 17 of the 2020 season against Baltimore.

The play set up Cincinnati's offense at the Kansas City 31-yard line. The Bengals cashed in seven plays later, when Burrow found receiver Andrei Iosivas on third-and-goal to put the road side in front 10-3. It was Iosivas' fifth career touchdown.

Burton Bomb Sparks Go-Ahead Score

Rookie Jermaine Burton’s first career reception came on the Bengals' first offensive play of the second half on a 47-yard deep ball from Burrow. It marked Burrow's longest completion since a 64-yard touchdown throw to Ja’Marr Chase in Week 10 of last season against Houston.

Ten plays later, Burrow hooked up with Iosivas for his second touchdown of the day on fourth-and-goal from the Chiefs' three-yard line.

Pratt, Wilson Team Up For 28 Tackles

The starting linebacker duo combined for 28 stops, as Germaine Pratt posted a career-high 16 tackles while Logan Wilson had 12. Pratt's previous career high was 15 on Dec. 19, 2021 at Denver. Wilson also had 12 tackles in Week 1 against New England, and today became the first Bengals player since Vincent Rey in 2017 to post double-digit tackles in consecutive games to open a season.

Pratt also had a game-altering play in the second quarter, when he forced a fumble by Chiefs fullback Carson Steele and recovered it at the Kansas City 46-yard line. It marked his sixth career forced fumble and fourth fumble recovery. The effort set up a six-play field goal drive for the Bengals that increased their lead to 16-10.

Two-Sack Trey

Defensive end Trey Hendrickson recorded his first two sacks of the season, bringing down Mahomes for a loss of 10 yards in the second quarter and a loss of four yards in the fourth. Both plays came on second down, forcing the Chiefs into a third-and-long. It marked Hendrickson's 12th career game with multiple sacks, tied for the seventh-most among all active NFL players. It also was his eighth multi-sack performance since joining the Bengals in 2021.

Taylor-Britt Wows With One-Hander

Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt grabbed his first interception of the season on a remarkable one-handed pick off a Mahomes throw intended for receiver Xavier Worthy on the final play of the third quarter. It was Taylor-Britt's fifth career interception and first against the Chiefs. His four picks last season tied for the team lead and tied for seventh in the NFL.

McPherson Nails Four

Evan McPherson tied his career high with four made field goals, converting from distances of 22, 33, 48 and 53 yards. It was his third career game with four field goals, and his first since Week 3 of last season against the Los Angeles Rams. His 53-yarder in the fourth quarter that gave the Bengals a 25-23 lead extended his team record to 23 field goals of 50 or more yards.

QUOTES

"Very tough to digest. Really just part of the sport, though. There's a lot of ups and downs in this. I feel like our team fought very hard until the end." - Offensive Tackle Orlando Brown Jr., on the game's result

"It was the highest competition possible against a great opponent, great atmosphere. That's why we play this game. I was proud of the effort, the way we played together, the way we stuck together out there." - Defensive End Sam Hubbard, on the intensity of the game

"When you have your one-on-one, that's when the defense gives you an opportunity to make an individual achievement. You don't get sacks if there's not good coverage and you don't get sacks if there's not good rush. Credit to the rest of the defense. We have a lot to build on, a lot to get better at, and we look forward to doing that next week." - Defensive End Trey Hendrickson, on his two-sack performance

"Keeping our moral up and keeping our focus, because we know what kind of team we are. We're one of the best teams in the AFC and we showed it today." - Wide Receiver Andrei Iosivas, on how to respond from the loss
