Reports: Al Golden To Be Named Bengals Defensive Coordinator

Al Golden 2

According to reports, Notre Dame's Al Golden is returning to the Bengals as defensive coordinator.

Golden, who was Bengals head coach Zac Taylor’s linebackers coach in 2020 and 2021, helped the Bengals get to Super Bowl LVI. A few days after the game, he became Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman's defensive coordinator in South Bend.

Now three years later, Golden heads to Cincinnati a few days after Notre Dame's stirring season ended in the national championship game loss to Ohio State.

Golden, who played tight end for the Patriots for a year, coached both sides of the ball with the Lions before joining the Bengals. During his four years in Detroit, he coached the tight ends for two years and the linebackers for two years.

Golden, 55, prepped for his NFL career with two head coaching stints of five years each at Temple University and University of Miami.
