CLEVELAND - The ? three Bengals Samoan players honored their embattled countrymen when they arrived at their hotel Saturday afternoon wearing native garb. Defensive linemen Domata Peko and Jonathan Fanene and linebacker Rey Maualuga wore Samoan kilts along with necklaces of shells around their shirts and ties.
The gesture showed solidarity with the people of American Samoa reeling from an earthquake and tidal wave that has claimed scores of lives. All three have immediate family members in the country but all of them are reportedly safe. In the Samoan culture, the necklaces signify, love, friendship and relationships.
