Wake Forest cornerback Brandon Ghee, a third-round pick, became the latest signee Friday and leaves the Bengals with four unsigned draft picks heading into the last weekend before training camp.
With the Bengals set to report to Georgetown College Wednesday, they also announced on Friday another one-year agreement with the Georgetown, Ky., school to hold the 2011 training camp at the East Campus Athletic Complex.
"We're happy to join our good friends in Georgetown to announce that our partnership will reach the 15-year mark," said Bengals vice president Troy Blackburn in a news release.
"The length of the relationship is reflective of the college's excellent facilities and professional staff. We remain convinced of the benefits of starting our season in a camp situation, and Georgetown provides us with exactly what we need, including a location (one hour from downtown Cincinnati) that makes camp visits possible for many of our fans."
The agreement comes down despite the NFL's uncertain labor situation for next season and this summer's abbreviated schedule. Because of the Bengals' appearance in the Aug. 8 Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, the intrasquad scrimmage and the mock game have been scratched.
The biggest impact on the relationship between the team and the school hinges on the potential of an 18-game regular-season schedule, which is a major reason the deal has been extended only by a year. The dates could be pushed back far enough that Georgetown might not be able to host because it would conflict with the start of campus activities.
But that wouldn't happen until 2012 at the earliest, plus the expanded schedule and its timeline is merely on the drawing board as part of the collective bargaining agreement negotiations.
"We are excited about our continuing relationship with the Bengals and look forward to a 15th year," Georgetown College athletic director Eric Ward said in the same statement. "It will be our goal, just as it has been for the past 13 years, to create a suitable environment for the Bengals to prepare for a Super Bowl run and the fans to enjoy a unique training camp experience."
