Football attendees listen to strategy from Bengals wide receivers coach Mike Sheppard at last year's Football 101 event.
The Bengals and the Marvin Lewis Community Fund will once again team up to host Football 101 on Thursday, October 14 at Paul Brown Stadium from 4:30-9:30 p.m. The event starts with a silent auction, Chinese raffle, dinner, drinks, door prizes and a live auction. This year's featured guest is Emmy Award winner, NBC Sunday Night Football sideline reporter and HBO Correspondent, Andrea Kremer.
Registration begins on July 1 at 10 a.m. at marvinlewis.org.
Head Coach Marvin Lewis is joined by members of the Bengals coaching staff and players to explain the rules and nuances of football to the 450 attendees. Individuals learn the game in a relaxed and entertaining atmosphere. The event included hands-on demonstrations, video presentations, and VIP tours of the locker room, weight room and playing field. The night ends with coffee, desserts, the announcement of the Chinese raffle winners and cheese coneys.
The Football 101 participants rotate through five stations*:
» Under the Hood – Held in the team meeting room, current NFL referee Paul Weidner discusses the rules of the game in an interactive session allowing the guests to "throw the flag and make the call."
» Classroom – Bengals coaches break down film and teach offensive and defensive tendencies, breakdowns in coverage, various plays and a variety of other things they go over with their players while preparing for a game.
» Chalk Talk – Bengals coaches teach plays in the locker room.
» Offensive Drills – Offensive coaches lead the participants through offensive fundamental drills and teach the women how to kick a field goal.
» Defensive Drills – Hitting the sled and tackling dummies are just a couple of the drills that were conducted under the watchful eyes of the defensive coaches.
