The past few weeks have been busy in Paul Brown Stadium. Five different groups of 25 students from the GEARUP SCORES! program have been roaming the Jungle participating in stadium tours. These tours were designed around GEARUP's main message and were meant to help the students gain awareness to potential careers available to them after obtaining a college degree.
GEARUP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness in Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded program designed to give students the resources to not only stay in school, but to continue their education beyond elementary school all the way through to college. Dr. Steffi Cappel, Executive Director of the program, and other GEARUP staff accompanied the students during these visits and highlighted different career paths and careers available while on the tours.
The students started each visit to Paul Brown Stadium with a Donatos pizza party and then embarked on a full tour of the stadium. Highlights of the tour were the team gymnasium, the Bengals playing field, the visiting team locker room and the press box.
"University of Cincinnati Partner for Achieving School Success, GEARUP SCORES!, is thrilled with our partnership with the Bengals and the opportunity to provide students with not only incentives for academic success but also a wide variety of career exploration opportunities," Dr. Cappel commented. "The school visits with Ben Utecht and stadium tours were some of the highlights of the partnership and we look forward to offering these opportunities to our youth in the future."
