On Monday morning the Bengals officially announced the signing of former second-round pick Christian Hackenberg to the practice squad to serve as the No. 3 quarterback. They also sent rookie cornerback Davontae Harris (knee) to injured reserve to make room for Sunday's re-signing of Michael Johnson. Harris is eligible to be re-called in mid-season.
The well-traveled Hackenberg has to yet to take an NFL snap after the Jets took him with the 51st pick in the 2016 draft out of Penn State. Earlier this year he was traded to the Raiders for a conditional seventh-rounder and then cut by the Raiders before bouncing to the Eagles and getting cut. One of his connections to the Bengals is linebackers coach Jim Haslett, a consultant at Penn State when Hackenberg was in his final season.
