Unlike some of the wide receivers that sat in the chair Bengals first-rounder A.J. Green occupied Friday at Paul Brown Stadium, he could care less about numbers. He and head coach Marvin Lewis displayed Green's new No. 18 and Green shrugged when asked if there is any significance.
"No, I think it looked good. I just like teen numbers," Green said in his introductory news conference. "It's just another number."
When asked if he felt pressure after his top draft rival, Alabama's Julio Jones, blew up the NFL scouting combine, Green shrugged again.
"I didn't feel any pressure. I knew the numbers I was going to put up and I felt comfortable with those," he said. "Julio had a great combine, but that's him. We're two different guys. What I do on the field it shows, the numbers really don't matter."
He also allowed he doesn't care if "I don't catch a ball and we win," and when asked if he knew about the unsettled quarterback position, he deadpanned, "I don't know. I really don't know. That's not in my control."
Lewis, who has battled the toxic words of some at that position lately, smiled when asked, "Are you sure he's a wide receiver?"
"He's a new breed," Lewis said.
