Trey Hendrickson Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week

Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson today was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the team's 41-24 win over Las Vegas in Week 9.

Hendrickson had a career-high four sacks, one forced fumble and one pass defensed. He became the fourth player in team history to record four or more sacks in a game, and the first since former DE Antwan Odom had five on Sept. 20, 2009 vs. Green Bay.

Three of Hendrickson's sacks against the Raiders occurred in the fourth quarter, including a strip-sack on QB Desmond Ridder that led to LB Logan Wilson's recovery at the Las Vegas 13-yard line. It marked Hendrickson's first FF of the season and his 10th since joining the Bengals prior to the 2021 season, which are tied for the second-most in the NFL in that span.

Hendrickson's performance boosted his season total to 11 sacks, the most in the NFL through Week 9. With this year's tally following his career-high 17.5 sacks in 2023, he is the second player in team history to record double-digit sacks in consecutive seasons, joining former DE/DT Eddie Edwards, who had 12 and 10 in 1980 and '81, respectively.

This is Hendrickson's second career AFC Defensive Player of the Week award. He previously received the honor in Week 3 of the 2022 season. Bengals players have combined for 18 weekly honors (Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams) since the start of the 2021 season, tied for the third-most in the NFL in that span.
