Bengals running back Corey Dillon, stunned at the resignation of coach Bruce Colset called Monday one of the worst days of his life. Coslet's decision came less than 24 hours after Dillon was stuffed for nine yards on 12 carries in the 37-0 loss in Baltimore. Dillon summed up the day's frustration when he fired the ball into the turf and walked off the field for a play after getting thrown for a two-yard loss.
"Regardless of what's going on as a team, I know he's a good coach and a good person," Dillon said. "I loved him as a coach and respected him. Sometimes in game situations, things get out of hand and people get frustrated and people get angry. I was one of those persons yesterday. I probably didn't take the right approach about it, but I'm pretty pissed off about what's going on and I'd be a lying dog to say I wasn't. He understands that and after the game we talked."
It appears the Dillon incident didn't push Coslet into resignation because after the game one of his last acts as coach was to hug Dillon and say he understood the competitiveness of his Pro Bowl running back.
"A good man has left us and I feel piss poor," Dillon said. "He always backed me and supported me. I'm going to miss him."
Dillon wishes he could miss what have become weekly poundings. He's gained just 82 yards on 41 carries and the pain and anger is building.
"I'm fed up," Dillon said. "Don't get me wrong, I'm not being negative. But enough is enough. I'm getting my butt kicked every week and I'm sick of it. This is my livelihood, my career, everyone's career is on the line and I refuse to get beat up on every Sunday. Just give me a chance. I'm getting my lunch handed to me."
Dillon bristled at talk that he quit by taking a play off after getting drilled.
"I never quit. I will never quit," Dillon said. "I had to get myself together because I was pretty mad. I had to get my mind right. I had to control myself and get back in there and that's basically what I did. Quitting isn't even on my mind. I'm taking some pretty good shots and it's been kind of a buildup."
